You probably drink coffee every day and when you come to have an incredible cup of coffee at CaféLab you will enjoy it like no other. But did you know any of these things?
- Legend has it that Ethiopian shepherds first noticed the effect of caffeine when they saw their goats very playful and dancing after eating coffee berries.
- Originally coffee was eaten. African tribes mixed coffee berries with fat to make edible balls.
- In 1675 the king of England banned coffee houses. Their pretext was that they were places where conspiracies were made against the crown.
- The 70% of the coffee consumed in Spain is robusta and the rest is arabica.
- Coffee grows on trees. Although these can grow up to 9 meters, they are left at 3 so that they are more easily harvestable.
- Coffee is the second most traded commodity, only surpassed by oil.
- George Washington invented instant coffee. But we are not referring to the president, but to a Belgian who lived in Guatemala.
- The term “American coffee” comes from the Second World War. It all started when soldiers asked for water to be added to their espresso to dilute its strong flavor.
